JAM 2019

Junior High Adventures in Ministry

Dates: May 17-19, 2019, at Cairn University in Langhorne, PA

Who: 6th-8th grade students

Cost: $115. This includes transportation, lodging at Cairn University, meals on-campus, a t-shirt, and evangelism training materials. Cost for parent and high school leaders is $90 (limited space – if you are a parent or high schooler desiring to serve at JAM, please speak to Dennis or Courtney). Regular FBC youth leaders are free as FBC is covering their costs.

Registration deadline is April 1. This is a firm deadline because JAM needs our final group roster and deposit by April 8. They do not allow any late additions to the roster due to arranging t-shirts and lodging.

What is JAM?

At JAM, middle school students are trained in how to share the gospel and then given the opportunity to share with inner-city children. We remain on the Cairn campus all weekend. On Saturday, elementary-aged children from inner-city church and after-school programs are bussed to Cairn and paired with our students. They take them through fun activities around the campus, including eating lunch together, bounce houses, a petting zoo, crafts, and outdoor games. They conclude their day with a sharing time when they find a spot on the grass and share the gospel. Once the children leave, our group will gather to discuss the day and ask our students how their time went. Throughout the weekend there are chapel sessions with worship times and a speaker. There are also various free time activities on the campus. Students leave JAM equipped and excited to share the gospel back home. JAM is a highlight event of the year!

Preparation Meetings

JAM preparation meetings for students attending will be held on May 5 and May 12 during 9:00 a.m. Sunday learning center class in the youth room. Parents are invited to join their students in the meeting on May 12 for group prayer and for any last minute questions.

Please arrive at the FBC youth area at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

We will return to FBC at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 19 (we will text if our ETA changes).

We have hired two charter buses to fit all of us. Each bus seats approximately 50 people.

We will stop for fast food lunch on the way up and back. Students will need spending money for lunch on the way there and lunch on the way back.

When we arrive at Cairn University on Friday afternoon, we will immediately begin with a service project. They ask us to fill lunch bags for the children on Saturday. We will then eat dinner in the Cairn University cafeteria and follow the JAM schedule. Full JAM schedule while at Cairn can be found at https://cairn.edu/events/jam/

Policy on Cell Phones/Electronics

It is our desire that students can fully focus on the events of the weekend without unnecessary distractions. Therefore, the use of cell phones is discouraged. Other gaming or internet-enabled electronics are not allowed. Students may bring a cell phone, but will need to keep it in their dorm room the entire weekend. This will enable students to text or call their parents to say goodnight if they desire, but we’re asking students not to use their phones for anything else (no taking pictures, social media postings, playing games, scrolling through Instagram, etc). This will be a great temptation for some and we’d encourage those students to simply leave their devices at home to focus on the weekend.

Our leaders will have their cell phones on them at all times in the event that a student and parent need to get in touch with each other. We will also have some leaders taking pictures so that the students can have a picture with their buddy on Saturday.

  • Great attitudes and an excitement to serve
  • Group unity and friendship building
  • That we would all grow in our personal relationship with Jesus
  • Good weather for Saturday
  • Good health and safety for all participants
  • That the children on Saturday would see Jesus’ love through our students and be receptive to the gospel
  • That our students would love well and have opportunities to share the gospel with boldness
